Résumé/Présentation

Nous devons combiner les données sensorielles provenant de diverses sources pour comprendre le monde qui nous entoure. Ces données sensorielles nous aident à appréhender notre environnement, influençant nos expériences et nos interactions dans notre quotidien. L'intérêt récent pour des approches axées sur les sens afin de soutenir les personnes autistes s'est concentré sur le traitement auditif—le sens de l'ouïe et l'acte d'écouter—et sur son rôle crucial dans les domaines du langage, de la communication et des interactions sociales, ainsi que sur des caractéristiques spécifiques à l'autisme non liées à la socialisation, pour mieux comprendre comment le traitement sensoriel pourrait différer chez les personnes autistes. Dans cette revue narrative, nous synthétisons des recherches publiées sur le traitement auditif chez les personnes autistes et sur la relation entre le traitement auditif et les caractéristiques de l'autisme d'une manière contextuellement novatrice. L'objectif est de mieux comprendre la relation entre ces domaines en s'appuyant sur des preuves issues de perspectives expérientielles jusqu'à des investigations neurologiques. Nous examinons également la relation entre le traitement auditif et des troubles auditifs diagnostiquables, tels que l'hyperacousie, la misophonie, la phonophobie et l'intolérance aux sons forts, ainsi que son lien avec le sommeil, l'anxiété et la surcharge sensorielle. En passant en revue la littérature expérientielle, comportementale et neurologique, nous démontrons que les processus auditifs interagissent avec et façonnent le profil autistique global—un aspect qui n'avait pas été envisagé auparavant. Par une meilleure compréhension de l'impact potentiel des expériences auditives, notre revue vise à informer les recherches futures sur l'exploration de la relation entre le traitement auditif et les traits autistiques à travers des mesures quantitatives ou des enquêtes qualitatives expérientielles pour examiner cette relation de manière plus holistique.
