'Je ne suis ni folle, ni mauvaise, ni dangereuse... simplement câblée différemment': Exploration des facteurs contribuant à une bonne qualité de vie chez les femmes autistes

Résumé/Présentation

Contexte : On reconnaît de plus en plus la sous-représentation des femmes autistes dans la littérature académique et l'impact de cette lacune sur la compréhension, le diagnostic et le soutien. Des recherches antérieures ont suggéré que les femmes autistes ont une qualité de vie (QdV) inférieure à celle de la population générale. Cependant, ces résultats ont été obtenus à partir de mesures de la QdV basées sur des normes et des priorités non autistes.

Méthodes : Cette étude qualitative a utilisé des méthodes d’analyse thématique réflexive ascendante pour explorer comment dix femmes autistes définissaient une bonne QdV et les facteurs clés pour y parvenir, à partir d'entretiens semi-structurés individuels.

Résultats : Les résultats indiquent quatre thèmes principaux représentant des voies vers une bonne QdV : un sentiment positif de soi, le sentiment d'être soutenue, l'autonomie et l'inclusion. Les participantes ont noté que le fait d'être autiste en soi n'était pas un facteur de réduction de la QdV. La QdV dépendait plutôt de la compréhension que les participantes avaient d'elles-mêmes, de la compréhension et de l'adaptation de leurs besoins par les autres, et de l'adéquation personne-environnement.

Conclusions : Les résultats de cette étude s’alignent sur une approche positive de la différence neurologique et ont des implications pour le diagnostic, le soutien post-diagnostique et l'application des mesures actuelles de la QdV pour les femmes autistes.
