Seize adultes (diagnostiqués ou auto-identifiés comme autistes) ont participé à l'une des deux itérations d'un programme de dix semaines dirigé par des personnes autistes, visant à aider les adultes autistes à en apprendre davantage sur l'autisme dans le contexte d'un groupe de pairs. Les motivations de la participation au programme comprenaient le désir de : (1) explorer l'autisme ; (2) s'autonomiser ; et (3) développer des stratégies pratiques et des mécanismes d'adaptation. Des entretiens ont été menés à la fin du programme et à nouveau 6 mois plus tard. À l'aide d'une analyse thématique, trois thèmes ont été identifiés : (1) l'appréciation de la nature autiste du programme ; (2) l'unité dans la diversité ; et (3) le développement d'une vision positive et pratique de l'autisme. Ces premiers résultats prometteurs soulignent la valeur du soutien par les pairs menés par des personnes autistes pour les personnes récemment diagnostiquées/identifiées comme autistes.
