Expériences d’auto-compassion des femmes autistes après avoir reçu leur diagnostic à l’âge adulte

Résumé/Présentation

Les connaissances sur les expériences d’autocompassion des personnes autistes sont très limitées. Cette étude a examiné les expériences d’autocompassion des femmes autistes après avoir reçu leur diagnostic à l’âge adulte. Onze femmes autistes ont participé à des entretiens semi-structurés analysés à l’aide d’une analyse phénoménologique interprétative. Trois thèmes supraordonnés ont été identifiés : « Déconnexion entre le 'moi' autiste et l’expérience des attentes sociétales » (le fardeau de la conformité ; l’autisme est mal compris ; les défis sociaux ; l’impact sur la santé mentale) ; « Démasquer : le processus de compréhension de soi » (autonomie et autocompassion ; validation et deuil) et « Impact sur les relations » (dilemmes liés à la divulgation du diagnostic ; connexion et compréhension). La frustration face aux idées fausses de la société sur l’autisme et les styles de pensée non aidants ont été présentés comme des obstacles à l’autocompassion. La plupart des participantes ont déclaré que leur diagnostic avait conduit au développement d’un plus grand sentiment de compréhension de soi, ce qui a facilité l’autocompassion. Certaines participantes ont suggéré que leur propre compréhension accrue de l’autisme facilitait leur compassion envers les autres. Les résultats de cette étude ont des implications cliniques pour une meilleure compréhension des expériences d’autocompassion des femmes autistes et éventuellement des moyens de faciliter son développement, afin d’améliorer le bien-être.
