Résumé/Présentation

Le camouflage des caractéristiques autistiques dans les situations sociales est supposé être une stratégie d'adaptation sociale courante chez les adultes avec des troubles du spectre autistique (TSA). Le camouflage peut avoir un impact sur le diagnostic, la qualité de vie et les résultats à long terme, mais il est peu étudié. Cette étude qualitative a examiné les expériences de camouflage chez 92 adultes avec TSA, en posant des questions sur la nature, les motivations et les conséquences du camouflage. Une analyse thématique a permis d'identifier les éléments clés du camouflage, ce qui a conduit au développement d'un modèle en trois étapes du processus de camouflage. Premièrement, les motivations du camouflage incluaient l'intégration sociale et l'amélioration des liens avec les autres. Deuxièmement, le camouflage lui-même comprenait une combinaison de techniques de masquage et de compensation. Troisièmement, les conséquences à court et à long terme du camouflage incluaient l'épuisement, le défi des stéréotypes et les menaces pour la perception de soi.
