Résumé/Présentation

Le trouble du spectre autistique est un handicap développemental qui affecte les individus tout au long de leur vie. Les personnes autistes présentent des différences par rapport aux personnes non autistes (parfois appelées allistiques ou neurotypiques) en ce qui concerne les compétences sociales, la communication, ainsi que des intérêts atypiques et/ou des comportements répétitifs. Environ 1 enfant sur 59 naît autiste, ce qui représente plus de 3,5 millions de personnes autistes aux États-Unis. L'analyse comportementale appliquée (ABA) est l'une des premières et des plus courantes interventions recommandées pour les enfants autistes. Cependant, les autistes défenseurs de leurs droits affirment que l'analyse comportementale appliquée nuit à leur santé mentale et les traite comme un problème à corriger. Cette étude qualitative phénoménologique a examiné les expériences de sept personnes autistes ayant reçu des interventions d'ABA durant leur enfance afin de comprendre ce que les adultes autistes perçoivent comme les avantages et les inconvénients de ces interventions, comment ils ressentent les interventions d'ABA qu'ils ont reçues, et quelles recommandations ils ont pour l'avenir de l'ABA.
